A happening place. Good food, quality coffee, interesting people. One of the remaining places in NYC that you can still smoke.

   * Woody Allen regularly comes there, looking for a quiet place to write and a quick bite.

   * And yet it is quiet enough that the owner spends his time taking cellphone cam photos of Tuna cans. "Can of Tuna, Badly Lit" will probably be considered a landmark work of pre-Gehenna art by Toreador connoisseurs.

   * Although Smoke has a remarkably talented staff, the interpersonal tensions are such that regular applications of Mind Control are required to keep the place running smoothly. As most places would.

   * The Savarina is excellent, try it next time you're in the neighborhood.
