News story about a recovered confederate sub, the first submarine to sink a battleship (one with a wooden hull). The Hunley carried out its mission off the shore of Charleston, SC. (this was the setting for my impossible cross-over mission, “Strangers”: A space marine, Blackbeard the pirate, an Egyptian vampire, a Japanese Samurai and his companion, a fox spirit, together with a confederate secret agent, roaming Charleston in search of Amber-like gods…)

November 2000 disasters (yet more “jobs for Superheroes”): in the US, some fires, in Asia, typhoons and landslides. Here’s a nasty typhoon in Taiwan (Nov 2), and two Indonesian landslides, one in Java (Nov. 6), one in Sumatra (Nov. 26)(Indonesia, with ethnic strife and natural disasters, can provide full-time work for plenty of superheroes). There’s also one in the Phillipines (Nov. 10)

A story so bizzare, you just have to Blog it: Priest-killer cannibal escapes Philippine jail. And elsewhere on Phillipine news, Catholic church leader defends banning of Philippines sex flick. The film is called “Live Show”, and went to the Berlin film festival. The church leader is called Cardinal Jaime Sin: Cardinal Sin. Neat, that (my mother first noticed his name on the BBC world service, years ago).
